Biography
Since
1978, Dennis Peabody has worked with flat glass applications,
creating jewelry, stained glass panels, lamps, and other glass
decorative pieces. From dichroic glass pins to commissioned
stained glass installations, Peabody's work is accessible,
dynamic and unique.
"I use the rigid medium of glass in a spontaneous manner
and break away from convention whenever possible. Rather than
working within the traditional patterned approach to stained
glass, I allow the qualities of the glass, stone and other
materials to guide me in assembling each work of art. Each
work crystallizes and subtle emotional qualities are captured,
in much the same way that natural crystals and gemstones are
colored by the trace elements and impurities present."
The Studio, located in Hartford's multicultural South End,
doubles as Peabody's home where Pixie, Dennis's cat, can often
be found napping on the computer monitor, and the dogs, Sugar
(aka "Princess") and Jairo, welcome visitors.
Dennis is currently working on rehabilitating a 100 year old
building on Elm Street in Hartford, just steps from Bushnell
Park and the Wadsworth Atheneum, the country's oldest art
museum.
Once
renovation of the Elm Street building is complete, (projected
for Spring 2003) Peabody Studio, along with Dennis, Pixie,
Sugar and Jairo, will have a new home.
"My art ranges from the fun and whimsical to the subtly
serious and reflective--always changing in relation to the
natural forces of light, season and time of day."
