Biography
Growing up in Hartford, Connecticut, Kimberly watched her
mother decorate their dinner plates with parsley sprigs, even
if the meal was simply hotdogs and beans.
Recognizing inherited talent, her mother enrolled Kimberly
in a class at the Wadsworth Atheneum when she was just a girl.
Now her work is sold in specialty shops, card shows, bookstores
and colleges and widely collected throughout the United States.
“I draw in the car, on a train, in a coffee shop –
pretty much anywhere and everywhere,” she says.
If your backside has ever warmed a church pew you’ll
find her work is rich in lyricism and pregnant with inspiration
from church, books, songs, celebrations, births and particularly
from old and unusual names. “If I hear a name like ‘Fletcher
Ray Jones,’ she says, “I get an instant visual,
like an old, skinny, bow-legged black man with plaid pants
and an apple jack hat.”
“I just have to draw it. I am mesmerized by people.”
Perhaps that’s why one of her biggest sellers is personalized
caricatures.
Kimberly realizes her visions in the unusual mix of watercolors,
acrylics, pen and metallic markers. Her drawings are direct
and intimate expressions of her experience and allow the viewer,
a glimpse into her life and creative process.
